For over five years, my life was defined by the structured, fast-paced world of the corporate sector. I am Mrs. D. Sarkar—armed with a Master's degree in Science and a successful career. By society's standards, I had made it. But deep down, amidst the boardroom meetings and spreadsheets, there was a rhythm missing from my life. A very specific, nostalgic rhythm.
I closed my eyes and could still hear it: clack-clack, swoosh... clack-clack, swoosh. The rhythmic, hypnotic sound of the handloom. It was the soundtrack of my childhood. I realized that my true calling wasn't in a glass corporate building, but in the colorful, rich threads of our Indian heritage. I took a brave pause in my career to chase the dream that had been quietly waiting for me all along.
Our country once produced the finest, most breathable ancient cotton fabrics in the world—an art form that was almost entirely suffocated and killed during British rule. I couldn't let those stories, those skills, and that magic fade into the pages of history.
That is how SAILI was born. I founded this brand as a celebration of India's rich textile heritage and a tribute to the resilient hands of our weavers. At SAILI, we don't just sell sarees; we are reviving ancient, premium handloom fabrics with a modern, sustainable touch.
